MELBOURNE, Australia--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 5, 1997--Leading Java and Internet tools developer Sausage Software today announced the immediate availability of eVend, a Java-based system for pay-per-view protection, delivery, and sales of intellectual property over the World Wide Web.
"We have just finished an intensive testing cycle, which culminated in a limited trial of eVend with selected customers. eVend is now available to all Web developers, whether they are amateur hobbyists with a few Web pages or major sites looking for a return from their million-dollar plus online investments," said CEO Steve Outtrim.
eVend is a complete electronic commerce solution, offering data protection, encrypted credit card transactions, online purchasing and automatic order fulfilment. eVend is written in Java, which means that users do not need to download and install wallets, plug-ins, or other complicated software. eVend can handle micro-transactions from one cent upwards.
"We see eVend as a way to offer incremental revenue streams for content developers. eVend is completely complementary to existing Web business models. Companies like ESPN, Time Warner and Disney have spent millions of dollars in developing content brands in other media; most of them are struggling to find the best way to leverage off those brands online. eVend offers a fully automated sales channel for the content that they've already developed - another way to get a return on their investment," Outtrim said.
eVend is priced on a sliding scale, involving a combination of sign-up fees and transaction processing charges. Smaller developers can get eVend for US$200, and pay Sausage Software a 30 per cent commission for all sales processed. Larger sites can spend more money up front, to pay single-digit commission rates.
